Southeast Weld Fire Protection District is a political subdivision of the State of Colorado, formed in 1954 primarily for the prevention of fires and the protection of life and property within the boundaries of our Fire District. The Fire District encompasses 405 square miles in Weld County, 87 square miles in Adams County, the Town of Keenesburg, unincorporated areas of Prospect Valley and Roggen, as well as significant portions of Interstate 76, State Highway 52, and State Highway 79. Southeast Weld Fire Protection District is an all-hazards fire department focusing on fire prevention, fire suppression, property preservation, emergency medicine, and rescue services. The Fire District is staffed with a combination of career and volunteer/reserve firefighters, providing service to approximately 7,500 residents within the Fire District. The career staff provides 24/7 emergency coverage and reside at Station 1 in Keenesburg and Station 2 in Prospect Valley, with an Administration Building in Keenesburg and a reserve station in Roggen.
District Operations are directed by the Fire Chief with oversight of a five-member Board of Directors. The Fire District is funded by tax dollars; managed by the Board of Directors and the Fire Chief.
Southeast Weld Fire Protection District not only responds to emergencies, but is actively engaged within the community throughout the year. Some of our involvement includes teaching our youngest residents fire safety while using our portable prop house during fire prevention week; assisting residents with car-seat safety inspections; participating in end of school year events; fire station tours; teaching high school students the proper use of fire extinguishers; providing emergency medical services at Weld Central High School sporting events and Southeast Weld County Fair and Rodeo and events at the fairgrounds; participating in Career Days at Weld Central High School and Aims Community College; participating in community parades; and participating in informational booths to discuss basic first- aid and fire prevention.
We also conduct the 3rd of July Fireworks Show; participate in the “Fill the Boot” campaign for MDA; teach CPR to our citizens; participate in the Christmas in Keenesburg event; host the annual pancake breakfast during the SE Weld County fair and rodeo and participate in the WE CARE event at Weld Central. Additionally, Southeast Weld Fire Protection District is an active participant in the betterment of the community through coordinated efforts with local businesses and town/governmental agencies alike. We take pride in establishing relationships and upholding the mindset of safeguarding and supporting local stakeholders, residents, and patrons. This includes, assisting the American Legion Post 180 and Heart of the Plains Cemetery in honoring fallen military members during Memorial Day services, and recognizing our military veterans during Veterans’ Day services. We partner with local law enforcement and governmental agencies to train to be able to better safeguard our schools, businesses, roadways, and the community at large, as well as work with local business owners to inspect and remedy any potential hazards in order to provide for the overall safety and satisfaction of their patrons.
